I was checking out Orangette this morning, a great food blog (http://www.orangette.blogspot.com/) and the latest post was about morels. They truly are as fantastic as Molly says. They have the most brilliant mushroom flavor, yet it is far from overpowering. Personally, I like to slice them them and saute them in a little butter. They really benefit from simple cooking and presentation. From what I hear, it isn’t finding morels, and it can be pretty competitive.. so thanks to everyone who digs them up for me to buy
They certainly aren’t cheap, but they don’t weigh that much, and you don’t need that many to get their awesome flavor and texture coming through.

Happy 4th of July
WFD: Pan seared sockeye, grilled vegetables, salsa verdi
A pretty great summer’s day! Hot, sunny. Cannot ask for much more to be honest. How best to reflect that in food? For me, grilled (BBQ) vegetables, tossed in an amazing olive oil, a little white wine vinegar and some herbs. That isn’t all though. There has to be some salsa verdi there. My favorite “green” sauce by a mile. This one is a simple mix of parsley, basil, dill peppers, capers all chopped together, mixed with red wine vinegar, dijon mustard and some more of that great olive oil. Traditionally there is also mint and anchovies in there too.. but I didn’t have any!

Blimey. What a day. What a fabulous day. Before we had Drake (our son) we heard a lot of people say “a kid changes your life”, and we knew it was true. We knew there was going to be amazing differences that hit us suddenly. Having a son is amazing, completely amazing. Waking up at 3am in the morning because the little guy is staring over at us laughing. There is nothing else I would be happy about waking up at 3am in the morning for. Feeding him solid foods, playing games with him. Seeing his plain simple excitement when you walk in the room (ok, that might be a little self obsessed). It is all simply incredible. It really is. Even the lack of sleep is OK when you know WHY you aren’t getting sleep. Because you have a son.
