Our kitchen for a couple of months

OK.. so I am only two days into cooking like this, but I have to say it is kind of a laugh. Who knows if I will be saying that in a couple of months, but for now I am enjoying myself!

Cooking this way is also going to teach me to be a more practical cook. I do tend to use every pan in the house; and well, that just really isn’t possible now. We have packed away everything apart from two frying pans (a large and small) and two saucepans (a large and small). For untensils I have a metal slotted spoon, metal tongs, a few wooden spoons, and a couple of knives. That is it really. Ingredients are anything I can fit in the fridge, along with some olive oils, and basic seasonings.

Most stuff is going to be cooked on the BBQ, and I have a small portable 6800BTU gas stove for doing pan based stuff.

So – here are some links to my kitchen setup:

BBQ – just a simple two burner thing.

Portable Gas stove - actually gets warm enough to cook most stuff!

A garden bench, acting as a surface for the gas burner, and a prep area.

And of course, we have to be able to see Drake when he is sleeping

Halogen work light – none of our exterior lights work, and it is pitch bloody black by the time we get home from work.

And a really thick jacket. Boy, these evenings are starting to get cold.

So what have I cooked so far? Well, I did a dish of grilled salmon, glazed carrots and parsnips, and grilled sweet potatoes. I have to admit to cheeting here a little bit though.. I had part cooked the potatoes a couple of days ago when we had our range, for speed. The glazed veg did good on the portable gas stove, and obviously the salmon did great on the grill.

Lots more food is planned, I will post as I make it!!
