Pumpkins!!!

Having a kid really lets you get back to doing basic purely fun things. This weekend we visited Jubilee Farms in Carnation, and hunted out two perfect pumpkins. Before having Drake there is no way I would have gone out hunting down a pumpkin, and that is a real shame. We had such a good time getting muddy, taking tractor rides, and hauling pumpkins around. Sometimes you just need a kid to validate doing this kinda thing. Big shame.

Jubilee Farms was awesome. A great local farm, run by people that really care about their produce, and their farmland. Originally certified organic, they dropped the rating a while back, but contine to farm in exactly the same “organic” way that they always have done. Like a lot of local farms, they don’t want to pay the big “organic tax” that comes with the government certification, and I don’t blame them. You can find out more at: http://www.jubileefarm.org/organic.html

So it was a great day. Absolutely pissed it down on the drive there, but thankfully just stopped raining when we took the tractor ride to patch. It just started to rain again once we were inside, weighing and paying. So what did we get? Two pumpkins around 20lb’s a veg. We are certainly going to carve them up, and perhaps make a pumpkin pie too!

I really recommend Jubilee for the pumpkin anticks. Unlike the larger Remlinger Farms just down the road from them, they don’t charge for any pumpkin activities, and really care about their produce and land a lot more than their tourist activities (hint hint Remlinger..)

We did get Drake a pumpkin outfit too.. we were hoping to take him in it pumpkin hunting, but the weather was too bad.

Hello! Found you from Matt over at Roots & Grubs; he was shamelessly praising your fish-cooking-abilities.

I am in Seattle too; we have ended up at The Farm the last few pumpkin-picking seasons. It is nice, though there website isn’t much to look at: http://www.thefarm1.com/. We haven’t really done much of the activities, though…

Your site and photos are very nice!
