Wrightfood – The Book Deal

I have had to keep this one quiet, really quiet. Which, as anyone that knows me could tell you, is a ridiculously hard concept for me to grasp. This has been in the works for some time, and I am so happy that today is the day I get to share this with you!

(did anyone notice that I changed my blog header to now match somewhat of the front cover?)

I am finding this one rather hard to put in to words, so instead of rambling on about how proud I am, and all that jazz, I guess I should tell you what is going to be in it.

The book covers much more than just recipes, however it is stocked full of those too. Some recipes are from my blog (like the modern take on clam chowder you see on the cover), however most recipes are completely new – and as you might gather focus around seafood. Pork lovers rejoice however because I have managed to slip a few cheeky bits of pork in there too. Lardo wrapped scallops anyone?

So as mentioned, the book is a lot more than just recipes. A good portion of the book is about the adventures I have had catching my own fish for dinner. I started fishing back in England when I was 11 years old. Whilst I stopped when I moved to the US, I started up again for the sakes of this book. A little differently however… I wanted to go bigger, and badder than ever before.

For instance – a whole chapter is devoted to me going hunting for Bluefin Tuna. Now, I have no idea why but these things are pretty bloody hard to find these days. I swear we were out on the ocean for what seemed like days. What I wasn’t surprised for however was what followed after I finally caught one of the bloody great things. Now, once it was on the boat I figured the best way to kill it would be to hit it over the head with a stick. Boy, that fish was like the Arnie of Bluefins. I swear I was clubbing that sucker for what seemed like 20 minutes before it gave up. Heck. These bluefin’s are tough. No wonder the price on them is so high.

After the bluefin I wanted something more. Shark and Swordfish. For these we traveled far and wide again. I managed to catch a shark and a swordfish on the same day! (that saved the publisher some cash, I can tell you! those charter boats aren’t cheap). This time however I didn’t use the old clubbing technique.. heck no, sharks have big teeth you know!! Instead the captain of the boat took care of it, I just cheered him on from the side – all supportive.. These were trophy fish to be honest – there was no way I could eat something this big and good looking. So instead, I got an old college buddy of mine who does some illegal taxidermy to mount these suckers for me. I haven’t told Danika yet… I bet she is going to love em when they show up on our doorstep!

Anyhow, as you can tell, I am really excited. I will give more details as soon as I know the release date!

    Fantastic stuff. Good on you for whacking the life out of that blue fin too, nasty blighters. The fewer of those around, the better. Coincidentally, I got a book deal last week too, so pleased. especially with the recipes for Orang Utan burgers and panda casserole ;0)

    I also love the new header. But I wont say congrats unless I know this is for real. If this is April fools, its sad. I was super excited at first! Before I read about the part where you were clubbing a bluefin for 20 minutes… so Nice April fools try.
